Best Tips/Techniques For HiGH SALARY NEGOTIATIONS For Job Offer in Interview with Indian HR

SALARY negotiation is probably the most critical aspect of a job interview. A few handy tips will help you strike the best deal.

Be prepared

You are equipped to understand, negotiate and bag the best offer, if you have a fair knowledge of the market trends, the company profile and your own capabilities.

Know the dynamics

Remember that when the employment negotiations are over, you will have to work with your interviewer.

In short, your career success may depend on the person with whom you have just finished negotiating.

Therefore, even though you want to negotiate the best possible deal, you need to proceed in a way that doesn’t tarnish your image.

Understand the needs

You need to examine your own priorities.

Understanding your needs will help you determine what type of company you want to work for. Like a well established company might offer a larger salary than a start- up company, but the same start- up company might offer stock or stock options that the former cannot.

Regardless of the type of company you are considering, an employer may not be able to give you exactly what you want.

The balancing act

There are instances when you may possess skill/ experience for which there is a great demand. In such cases, you are the best candidate for the job and your bargaining position will be greatly strengthened. It is an enviable position to be in. On the other hand, you may be one of several candidates the company is considering to hire. Under such circumstances, salary expectations may be the key factor in determining who gets the job.

Be honest

If you lie while negotiating about your current salary, there is the risk of being caught. That will make you lose your credibility. You can determine what you want to say and how you want to say it. An element of preparation is to understand the problematic areas and rehearse how you will handle them.

Focus on the goals

Not just achieving your goals, but it is equally important to not make your future boss feel like a loser in the negotiations. You will have gained little by negotiating a good deal if you alienate your future boss in the process.

Know when to stop

There comes a point in every negotiation when you have achieved everything that you could. At that point, thank the person you are dealing with and accept the offer. If you don’t know when to stop negotiating, you run the risk of having the company decide that it made a mistake by offering you the job.
